We reexamined the played out “Live Edge” table through a new lens to try and breath life into it. At the core of it, the fascination with the rawness of slab wood feels brutalist and monumental in a way, a tribute. We used this idea to find new life in the trestle style base. The base is super straight forward with an exacting refinement in proportions and layout. The substantially thick pieces all run on a three axis system and all intersect, and continue to pass through each other. It feels architectural, brutalist, refined and most importantly it looks fresh and deviates from the standard trestle style base. While designing the base many hours were spend researching the Art and Architecture building at Yale deigned by Paul Rudolph. It’s influence is undeniable and shows.
